At my stage I can’t do “translation” into Greek. These exercises check whether I can use the proper forms and syntax, within the limits of what White’s First Greek Book has presented up to this point. Not creative and surely of no great interest to anybody but me.

Still, I hope for your corrections.

  2. The hoplites grounded arms.

  3. They feared that the Greeks would attack them during the night.

  4. He will inflict punishment on them.

  5. I fear that he may take (use the aorist participle) and inflict punishment on me.

  6. And when they had made this agreement (ταῦτα συνθέμενοι), they proceeded to the river.

  7. οἱ ὁπλῑ́ται ἔθεντο τὰ ὅπλα.

  8. ἔδεισαν μὴ οἱ Ἕλληνες τῆς νυκτὸς ἑαυτοῖς ἐπιθῶνται.

  9. τὴν δίκην αὐτοῖς ἐπιθήσω.

  10. δέδοικα μὴ λαβὼν με δίκην ἐπιθῇ. [cf. Anabasis 1.3.10]

  11. ταῦτα συνθέμενοι ἐπορεῦοντο πρὸς τὸν ποταμόν.

  1. You probably don’t want the direct reflexive ἑαυτοῖς here, but rather the indirect reflexive σφίσιν, the non-reflexive αὐτοῖς, or, even better, just omit the pronoun.
