Is this song latin?

can anyone tell me if the song on this site that plays when you click enter is in Latin? I just started learning Latin a while ago and I can’t make out any words but i think i heard an “Amici” in church pronunciation.

In what site?

lol sorry forgot http://www.square-enix.co.jp/dvd/ff7ac/

I think it is Latin as a few songs from Final Fantasy have some latin but i might be wrong

sounds like it… but could be just latin-sounding gibberish.

I doubt its just gibberish for FF7 they took excerpts from Carmina Burana, a medieaval Latin collection of songs to make a song. And for FF8 they made an original latin song except for the anagram words in the beginning.

alright i have the lyrics to the song now, can anyone help me translate this?

Cur in terra cordi erremus?
Cur Evae terra cordis adorata est?
Stella vorbis non concessit no concessit.
Stella norbis non concessit no concessit.
Stellae arum in terram quo is?
Carus canus consors Evae cordi ?
Dii amoris in stella fuerunt.
Anima sacrificare necesse est.
Cur in terram in terra erremus?
Cur media medimus in terra?

Sorry, my LAtin is stil rather poor, I’m only up to lesoon XII in L’Doge’s textbook

Where did you get the lyrics? Only parts of the lyrics above make sense and I can tell that some don’t match the words in the song. I found a very small number of Japanese sites that had attempted to decipher the lyrics, but their results were no more rational. There is no doubt that it is Latin, however. They may be using Latin just to make the song sound more epic and profound, but since at least some of their other Latin songs have meaning I doubt that they would do that. To complicate things, it is probably Mediaeval Latin, so the word usage and a few other things could be shifted slightly. I tried to translate the parts that made some sense and that I could actually make out in the song:

I am almost sure that the word you gave as terra is something else entirely in at least some parts; I believe they say gremio or something similar in at least one place where it says terra.

cur… erremus?
why are we to wander?

vobis non concessit, non concessit.
has not given way, has not given way for you. (maybe “has not left from you”)

nobis concessit, non concessit.
has not given way, has not given way for us. (maybe “has not left from us”)

quo is?
where are you going?

dii amores in stella fuerunt.
the divine love(s) were in the star.

animam sacrificare necesse est.
one must sacrifice the soul.

cur metimus (=metimur?)?
why do we pass through?

The only lines that I am really sure were in the song as they are here written are the concessit lines and the animam sacrificare line, but I am terrible at deciphering operatic music.

i found them at adventchildren.net you can download the song here http://rapidshare.de/files/3779812/Advent_Children_Site_BGM_192.mp3.html
thanks anyway

They attempted some translations at the site forums there but I don’t think they’re really accurate.

BTW, are you a Final Fantasy fan?

I do distinctly hear the word “stella” in the concessit line though. Maybe stella might not be referring to a star in this context, in the movie, they frequently use the japanese word for “star” to talk about the Planet.

lol ok i finally found accurate lyrics as the soundtrack was just launched in Japan today
