Is anyone else possessed ?

It’s like totally weird … I become obsessed with something and it takes over my being. NTG has become my new “drug of choice”! It is like crack to me !

Since early March I have been living and breathing biblical greek .. all day long ! In the car I listen to tapes … In the tub I review principal parts. At night I curl up with my greek-latin bible. It is like a holy curse! I am displaying the classic signs of addiction and dependency and obsession and possession ! Is there help available? Is there a support group? My wife is really worried! Well … it least it is not some bizarre paraphilia!

The only good part is that the new obsession has driven out my old obsession which was chatting (skype!) on the net in spanish with people primarily from Peru and Mexico… which wasn’t entirely bad but nevertheless was far from being completley good either for reasons I won’t elaborate upon.

I share your ails, Kynete. I don’t want help, though

No harm, but what is your record with past obsessions when you go off the subject? Do you hit a massive low? or do you usually batter on with one obsession till another displaces it?

I have a similar temperament, self-observed over a couple of decades since I became aware of it. I know (who am I kidding!) how to manage it now.

I cycle through obsessions and keep coming back to the favorites. Generally (not always!) my obsessions have been salutory and have included besides ancient languages gardening, cooking, surfing, swimming. The current affair with biblical greek is extreme but enjoyable. The good thing, as I mentioned, is that this new interest has driven out a truly pernicious habit of internet chatting that I just couldn’t seem to shake over a 1.5 year period.

I spent a good part of yesterday with the fifth chapter of the gospel of matthew … No there there are some interesting ethical injunctions.

Sounds like you have a bad case of Greekeritis. Your general practitioner might be able to help with a few over the counter drugs.
