Introductions

Hello everybody. I’m the new guy. The only thing more awkward for me than a self-introduction on a forum would be one in front of a crowd. So… Yeahhh.

All serious joking aside, I do love language. Always have. I would often take out books on foreign languages from the library when I was kid. I didn’t actually learn anything then but I enjoyed the novelty of it all the same.

Since that time, I picked up a little French in high school… and then lost it. After college, I picked up a decent, conversational amount of Portuguese working in Brazil and Angola for 5+ years. I have not lost that.

So what brought me here? Two things really: My ongoing interest in linguistics prompted me to do some digging. What I found was that conventional wisdom suggests (even as a hobbyist) it would behoove me to learn a classic language associated with my culture, in my case Latin (or Greek - I’m just going with Latin for now). Secondly, I’m making a career change in to science, from engineering, by way of going back to school. As an aspiring scientist, it would also behoove me to learn Latin.

And so here I am. I looking forward to learning and picking y’alls brains all about Latin and maybe even one day, contributing a thing or two.
