Introduction

Hi Everybody,

At the moderator’s request, here is a brief intro (and by no means an ad): got a Master’s in Comp Lit from an American university and PhD in “Sémotique” from the Univ. or Paris 7, but instead of going into academia I embarked on a 30-yr career as a freelance translator of several modern languages specializing mainly in legal/financial documents. So why am I interested in Latin and Greek? Well, now I’m finally eligible to retire and devote myself to what really interests me. II remember a guy once asked me why I would learn a dead language, and I replied that I would much rather converse with interesting dead people than living bores.

My medium term goals are to review my Latin and Greek to the point that I can read my favorite works, Ovid’s Metamorphoses and the Odyssey in the original, and judging by the threads I’ve looked at I’m confident this forum can help me out.

I look forward to being a member.
