Introduction

Greetings all,

I am a long-time reader of the discussion that takes place on this forum and have benefitted greatly from the advice and experiences of others.

I have been studying Koine Greek on my own for a year now and have also flirted with classical Greek courtesy of Athenaze. After having worked through some of the introductory grammars, I have now moved onto reading texts.

I am also a divinity student with an interest in ancient philosophy (recently finished an MA thesis on anthropological themes in Plato and St Paul). Though have become bored with simply reading the NT and with your recommendations, I have acquired some Loeb classics.

In this respect, I have found some of the writings of the apostolic fathers to be accessible. I was also pleasantly surprised to have found Epictetus somewhat accessible to me and his regular use of ‘μὴ γένοιτο’ harkens back to St Paul (stylistically speaking).

Overall, I have responded best to inductive approaches to learning with a heavy emphasis on reading and internalizing grammar in this way.

Would love to hear about some of your stories.

Kind regards,

Zolt.
