Greetings. I am man in late 40’s, physician, in south central Pennsylvania USA, who is interested in learning to read classical Greek in order to read Plato in its original form, and of course other writers. I enjoy reading the Socratic dialogues since they challenge my way of thinking; learning to read them in the original is my goal. English is my primary language, I speak Spanish (grew up speaking at home) and took French in H.S.
I am using primarily Athenaze 3rd Ed both books and workbooks.
Why not start with Latin? I think Latin is way easier than Greek. For Greek, you need to learn a new alphabet, the declensions have three numbers rather than two, the vocabulary is rather alien to speakers of modern European languages (which have been influenced by Latin significantly more than by Greek)… Don’t they also teach some Latin in medical school?
