Introducing myself

I just discovered this very interesting site a couple of weeks ago. It looks as though it will be quite helpful to me, and perhaps I’ll be able to share a few things that might help others too.

As a youngster I had six years of Latin and four of Greek, and loved them both. My Latin teacher assumed I was going to go into classics after high school and was quite surprised and disappointed when I chose another field. That was 60 years ago. Now in my retirement I’m trying to resuscitate what is left of the Greek I once knew and loved, but which is now on life-support. With the passage of the years Latin has gone dormant but is still there, but Greek is a whole different story.

I’m using Keller and Russell’s Learn to Read Greek as my main text. I don’t remember what we used as texts in high school, but they were no way near as heavy - in every sense. I rather wonder how extensively this very detailed text is used in secondary schools; apart from everything else, it’s hard to imagine a 21st century student lugging around books that make you list to one side.

Well, I just wanted to say hello, and I look forward to participating.
