Amplexari
Boban: amplexor is a deponent verb. If you’re not too familiar with how deponents work, or haven’t learned them at all yet, it’s no wonder you couldn’t guess the infinitive. Basically, the infinitive of a deponent verb follows the pattern of the passive infinitive of that conjugation.
In other words, ask yourself what the passive infinitive of amplexo would be (if there were such a word). As a first declension verb, the present passive infinitive ending is -ari. (Compare -are, the present active infinitive ending.)
For another example, consider sequor (I follow). This is a third conjugation verb. What’s the present passive infinitive of this conjugation? -i. duci, for instance, is the present passive infinitive of duco (I lead). So, the present infinitive of sequor is (you guessed it) sequi (to follow).
Remember that deponent verbs have passive forms and active meanings.
