I just came across this form in the CGCG p. 376. I wonder if it is an error. Should it be χράομαι?
Hi Charlie,
Have a look at p.133. in the CGCG. χράομαι is one of small number of verbs that contracts irregularly in the present. Where you’d expect to see χρᾷ, χρᾶται, χρᾶσθε, instead it contracts from χρη- > χρήομαι> χρῇ, χρῆται, χρῆσθε. Smyth talks a little more about it in paragraphs 394 and 641.
Thank you kindly, Aetos. I shall go back over that page and study it more thoroughly.
