Hi all,
I am writing an epic novel based in ancient Rome and I am researching the heroes ordinary world (where she lives), but can’t seem to find a map of the area, hopefully with some detail.
I want to place her close to the via salaria in the Sabine area bordering on the city of Rome.
If you can help me, I will appreciate it. A website or even a book I may buy on the subject.
There’s a massive map at http://www.italy-map.net/rome-ancient-map-big.php, which is very clear, but the picture takes ages to load. The Via Salaria is at the north-northeast part.
Thanks for the link. I had already seen that map. The area I wanted in detail was further north slightly to the east.
I did find that Encarta has a geographical map of the area. At least, that tells me where the mountains, the fields, etc., are.
I have some pictures of a model of ancient Rome if you want them…
They didn’t all turn out that well, actually only one did, the others I took are blurred, but not too bad. I’m afraid I don’t have a map with the names of the streets, but maybe the photo will help a bit if you use it in combination with the map. Of course I don’t know if the area you’re looking for is on my photo or not
.
Just send me a pm if you want them anyway.
Great! I’ll take a look at them. I will PM you my e-mail address.
I actually found software with complete maps of ancient Rome, the geography, etc., but the price was about $350.00. Too much for me right now.
That much!
Maybe you can find some maps in your local library… depending on how large your local library is of course…
You might find these pictures interesting too, but they are black and white
