Howdy! I just joined.

Glad to be here.

Welcome.

Thank you.

Some may disagree, but given how the US election came out, and significant chunks of the so-called “Patriot” Act, I thought this quote (below) is shorter and sweeter:

Welcome, Snorrrrrrrithor.

So, your profile says you’re a scientist. What kind of scientist, just out of interest?

If you have a job offering…

I’m a biologist and geologist: A biogeologist.

My main interest is petrology and the causes (and prevention) of Mass Extinctioons in Earth’s History. These causes can be numerous. The main culprits being volcanism and bolide (comet or asteroid) impact. Though there are several others.

The Chicxulub impact probably did in the the dinos, but there was massive volcanism in India around that time (forming the Deccan Traps) too.

Ironically extinction of one whole world ecology creates niches for new evolution. Mammals evolved way before dinos, but stayed tiny til those big boys got killed off.

Say is that ms. you display Archimedes or some other mathematician?

Welcome!

So, if us humans get killed off what will become the new dominant species? creepy, crawly things? Ick . . .

Hi David! Welcome to Textkit!

Are you interested in Latin, Greek, or both?

Hey, I’m just a university student.

What’s an ms? In any case, my avatar is Archimedes’ palimpsest.

Welcome!
I guess from your id that you are an Edda fan.

I noticed your profile also mentions theology. I also enjoy theology even though I am just a novice at it. Do you have any problems putting the science and theology together? I think they fit well together but I may be in the minority.

Rhuiden

Manuscript. Usual plural: mss.

Well, Dr. Zaius agrees with you, for what that’s worth.

Oh, I’m not used to seeing the word “manuscript” abbreviated.

Who is Dr. Zaius?

Bolide. Now, there’s a nice word of Greek ancestry.

Did you do post-undergrad work on the mass extintions stuff? That sounds just fascinating.

He’s the leader of the orangutans on the planet of the apes.

lol, I was thinking he must have been some important theologian or scientist I had not heard of. Charlton Heston was great in that movie. He ranks just behind John Wayne in my opinion.

Rhuiden

Oy.

That seems a bit sharp, especially for an intro thread.

I guess a heavy blow in the abdomen is likely to cause a vomit. :sunglasses:

“Sharp”?
