How Would You Say?

Hi,

A simple request from someone who has spent the last several years on the eastern shores of textkit.

I’d like latin equivalents of these two phrases:

  1. “heart in ashes”, as in heart covered with/buried in ashes
  2. “from the shallows”, meant to be contrasted with “de profundis”, a la Wilde.

Thanks.

-Paul

I don’t know if there are any colloquial equivalents, but here’s my attempt at a literal translation:

  1. Cor in cineres

  2. De vadis (or possibly) De brevibus

May I ask what you are using these for?

Hi thesaurus,

Thank you very much for your efforts.

Cordially,

Paul

Cor in cineribus, cor inter [among] cineres, cor sub [below] cineribus.

De vadis.

Chaîre!

Thank you Lucus.

Cordially,

Paul
