hey!

NO! Gothics conquered and crippled Rome!

Die Gothics! Die!

And Episcopus means that yes he does.

Oh, you’re taking German again. Yes, ‘die Gothics’, that means ‘the Gothics’ in English
…just translating for those, who don’t speak German :stuck_out_tongue:

Actually, the Romans conquered Rome. The Germans just finished it off.

I had slimmest idea how it sounded so I purchased a CD of Beowulf[unabridged] recited by Trevor Eaton. Listening to it is very pleasing.

 Read Oswald Spengler’s the decline of the west?

Panem et circenses! Panem et circenses!

It was clearly the Gothics who conquered Rome.

Germani Romam antiqui vicerunt neque Romani qui id fecerunt!

The barbarians were no match for the Romans. It was only due to the internal decay and corruption that the Roman discipline (and funding) crumbled away and the relentless pressure that was the Germans finally cast the final blow. The barbarians were a threat all through Rome’s lifetime, but it was when it became weak that it was overcome.

Plus of course, the barbarians nearest the empire benefitted from having served as auxiliaries/foederati – which probably made it more of a contest of equals.
