Nice to meet all of you.
My specialisation/ topic was in Plutarch and Greek philosophy. Supplication, moral characterisation and Greek rhetoric were also important themes of my dissertation. I always struggled with learning ancient Greek so I’m hoping that learning Latin will be a good experience. I studied for a long time Classics at university. I have always had a great fascination with Latin but I have not had the time to learn it. I brought some second hand copies of Plautus and Terence in the Loeb series ages ago because I wanted to read these in Latin. I probably have some other Latin loebs but of the top of my head I can’t remember.
I have in the last two weeks (this is my second attempt because I need to devote time to it) started learning from a second hand copy of Latin Made Simple by Rhoda A. Hendricks and A.V. Kelly. Has anyone else used that book? I think its probably a little bit old now. I’m enjoying the vocabulary and recognising parts of a sentence but I haven’t mastered learning the declensions or tenses quite yet but I’m trying slowly to get there. I am completing the exercises but part of me just wants to get to the next chapter / reading section to get a sense of how the language / grammar works - I think from looking forward the next chapter has the Passive tense.
