Hello

My name is Neil. Way back in 1983 I graduated with a Classics/History degree fully intending to begin a MPhil/PhD on a military subject (the use of cavalry between Marathon and Munda) in the near future.
But I took some time off to raise cash . . . and spent the next 40 years as a journalist! Now I’ve taken (early-ish) retirement I’ve decided to try to resurrect my dead ancient language knowledge. I’ve started with Greek, using mainly JACT, because back in my student days it was my weakest subject. I’m hoping if I do the hard yards first then when I finally get around to Latin I might find it a bit easier.

Thanks for having me!

Neil

Welcome to Textkit, Neil!

Welcome. Glad to see you share my interest in Ottoman history.

I do, although the Seljuks are my real area of interest. A few years ago I was at a Turkish restaurant near my home and got chatting to the owner about history. He said I was the first English person he’d met who knew any Turkish history. Ever since I get a free dessert and coffee when I visit. Who said history has no value in the modern world!
