Hi everyone,
Jay here. I’ve learned Latin and ancient Greek awhile ago. I’m currently working on my french so that I can use my Assimil collections to enhance my Sanskrit and ancient Greek! Wonder if anyone has any good or bad things to say about the Assimil sans peine series?
Welcome to Textkit!
I have used the Assimil Le Grec Ancien and still refer to it regularly. Like all Assimil books, it it pleasant way to learn a language. As the name Assimil suggests, one is supposed to learn via assimilation, rather than rote learning. Even though I went through the book twice, I still found the need to reinforce my understanding of the grammar by using outside resources.
I found https://ancientgreek.pressbooks.com useful. It has forty-eight chapters/lessons in which it presents all the major elements of Greek grammar. The Assimil Greek comes with CDs. I have no way of judging whether the pronunciation is good or not.
If your goal is to improve your French along the way, the Assimil will do that also
