Hello everybody

Hello everybody!

It is a pleasure to meet you all.
I’m happy to be a new member of this forum.

I found it interesting that this forum is about Greek and Latin only. Not one language, not many, just those two. The fact is, both of these languages were always fascinating me, but for other reasons:

  • Latin for being an official language of many European countries that exist to this day, even though some of the countries already had their own languages, but used Latin in official documents etc. Though people say it’s a dead language, I find it far from it. It’s still widely used in medicine, and everyday products labelling (like the product ingredients), in mottoes and slogans, engravers and inscriptions, and many more.
  • Greek for it’s unique alphabet, that looks beautiful and logical. There’s something about it, and it also made a huge impact worldwide. Not only almost everyone uses at least some well-known Greek words sometimes, we all use Greek symbols here and there. Some even say, that the alphabet is so unique, because Greeks got it from an ancient civilisation, living on a continent that no longer exists (the origin was supposed to be on the Mu continent, of which only Hawaii and the Easter Island survived to this day, both being on the other sides of the continent; and then Mu civilisation had a colony on the Atlantis continent - also no longer exists - that was in the middle of the Atlantic ocean, and actually from where it went to the now Greece, where another colony was planned to expand). You must admit, that no matter if it’s true or not (or partially), stories like this perfectly show the mysterious “character” of Greek.

I’m mostly interested in learning some Latin basics, and maybe one day I could read and understand some of the old inscriptions, or simply understand the popular Latin sayings (and by understand I mean truly understand them linguistically, and not just memorise their complete translation, without knowing what the individual words mean and their inflections; I’m sure you know what I mean).

Also, I’d like to contribute to keeping this language still in use, by using it myself in some of my projects. For some, using Latin names (for example) in some products may look silly, but in many industries this is de facto the standard - no one is laughing at drug names and the pharmaceutical industry).

At last, I wanted to confess that I do not have any Latin tatoos, with or without typos

Regards,
Bat
