Greetings!

Hello everyone, here’s a brief overview to introduce myself and why I’m joining this discussion forum:

Many years ago in my university days I used to enjoy reading ancient Greek authors translated into English in the Penguin Classics editions e.g. Thucidides, various plays, Greek Anthology etc. Also took an introductory NT Greek course at university but have tended to rely upon an interlinear since.

Recently decided to try and make one more go at properly learning Koine to read the NT and LXX in Greek. So I threw out my interlinear and found a free online beginner’s textbook in Biblical Greek by Dr. Shirley Rollinson and worked right through it which took me almost a whole year. Her book (see https://www.drshirley.org/greek/textbook02/contents.html) was great but at times I felt unsatisified because it seemed like I was memorizing rules and paradigms without really understanding the why behind them.

So after finishing Dr. Shirley’s book, I thought: What next? Looked around for an intermediate-level Greek grammar and eventually decided upon the Cambridge Grammar of Classical Greek (CGCG) as it’s based on modern linguistic scholarship, not century-old scholarship like Symth’s grammar.

Spent most of this summer/fall reading right through CGCG and wow, it’s like a whole new world has opened up to me! So I’ve now begun a second, slower readthrough of CGCG and am starting to come up with questions which I’m hoping some of the experienced people here may be able to help out with.

Will post my questions as they arise in the appropriate subforum here as time permits in the coming days / weeks / months / aeons

Welcome to Texkit, Mitch!

Thanks!
