Greetings

I’m now off on this journey of learning Ancient Greek. I’ve discovered a YouTube channel by Walter Roberts. I’m wondering if that is a good place to start? Thanks and I look forward to interacting with this message board.

Welcome! I’ve had a quick look at his videos and he takes you through Pharr’s Homeric Greek: A Book for Beginners. That book is freely available online (and linked to through this site). I haven’t used it myself, but perhaps there are other users here who learned Greek using it.

Personally, I learned with the book ‘Athenaze’, which I like a lot… but I had a teacher, so my experiences might not be relevant to your case.

Is there a Greek author/period that you’re particularly interested in? Pharr aims at teaching you to read the Iliad and Odyssey, so if you really want to read Plato or the New Testament you’re probably better off looking for something else.

Initially, I am interesting in Homer. So it sounds like Pharr is a good choice. Thanks so much for the response.

Welcome here! Good luck and have fun. Don’t be afraid to ask questions here as you go.
