Greek Texts, Latin Prefaces

Plato, Republic, Slings, OCT: for the Latin-bereft, what is the gist of the preface?

It sets out the manuscript basis—three medieval manuscripts (A, F, and the less important D), a few fragments of papyrus manuscripts, and the indirect tradition.
The edition’s claim to distinction lies mainly in its critical apparatus, which represents a huge amount of labor. The text itself, as was only to be expected, is not very different from Burnet’s 1902 OCT but was thought through afresh at every point and on balance is probably a little bit better.
