Everything is quiet, no sound is heard, the birds don’t sing, because they are frightened by the big and sudden storm. / . . . because the big and sudden storm frightens them.
I assume the territae refers to the aves, but not quite sure.
Mile long – I like that. But get use to it. The closer you get to real Latin (composed by ancient authors as opposed to textbook teaching Latin), the more you see that kind of thing. Ørberg does a decent job of getting you ready for it.
