correction of exercises(Brazilian Student)

Please correct these exercises to me.I have put the phrases in english and my translation,I ask you to correct them and it will be of a great help to me if you coment the corrections.

  1. The paths of the high mountains are rough
    Montes itineres alti confragosi sunt
  2. The spurs of the riders incite the horses
    Equitum calcaria equuos incitant
  3. The words are indicated by the subject
    Verbi thematis indicantur
  4. The names are given to the allied by the consules
    sociis a consulibus nomina darantur
  5. To Homer`s poems great honors are given
    Magna honoria poematis Homeri darantur

“of the high mountains” shows possession and must be in the genitive plural, not the nominative as you have it (montes altimontium altorum)

iter, itineris “path” is neuter, so you must use the neuter plural (*itineresitinera), and also make the adjective confragosi agree with a neuter nominative plural (confragosiconfragosa).

  1. The spurs of the riders incite the horses
    Equitum calcaria equuos incitant

Correct (only one ‘u’ in equos)

  1. The words are indicated by the subject
    Verbi thematis indicantur

verbum, -i is neuter, so you must use a 2nd declension neuter plural ending (verbiverba)

I think that you are supposed to use the ablative of thema, thematis, which is themate.

  1. The names are given to the allied by the consules
    sociis a consulibus nomina darantur

the present stem of do, dare, dedi, datum is da-; you just add the passive ending -ntur onto the stem (*daranturdantur)

  1. To Homer`s poems great honors are given
    Magna honoria poematis Homeri darantur

honor, honoris, like most third declension nouns ending in -or, is masculine, so you must use the masculine accusative plural ending (*honoriahonores); you also must make the adjective magna agree with the new gender and case of honores.

poema, poematis is third declension, as indicated by the ‘-is’ genitive, making the expected dative plural -ibus. However, since this is a special noun borrowed from Greek, the -is dative plural is quite acceptable. I am not sure if you knew that or if you were just lucky

you have made the same error with darantur (which is not a word) as you did in the previous.

I hope that helps. If you have any more questions, you know where to find me.
