conditional "if one is to ... one might as well"

I am doing a bit of translating into Greek, and am having some trouble identifying what kind of conditional one might say this is, and also figuring out how to translate the expression “might as well”:

“If one is to achieve nothing, one might as well …”

What would you say?

I’d say ἄν and optative. Maybe place also a γε.

You could try εἰ μηδὲν διαπράξεταί τις, τοῦτ’ ἴσον τῷ (μηδὲ ζῆν e.g.)
