Hi guys!
I’m new to this forum and I’m totally into Latin and Ancient Greek. I love talking and writing Latin (my Greek skills are still on a beginner’s level) and I hate people who keep telling me things like: “What, you want to speak Latin/Greek? Get real, it’s a dead language!” I hope that I will find different views on that in this forum 
(Foreign) languages in general and learning them are a big part of my life, and beside Greek and Latin, I also love English and Japanese. I’m still at school, but after my graduation next year I want to go to university and become an English/Japanese/German interpreter, but I would also like to include Latin and Greek somehow! Is that perhaps a dream that will never come true?

Some people surrounding me are also often ask what I need those “dead languages” for. I tell them that knowledge of Latin and Greek is an inseparable part of every educated person. Non tam praeclarum est scire Latine, quam turpe est nescire. Besides, I believe that Latin is the best language ever. It has the most complicated grammar, that is why it is the most rational. I also like Greek. It is not only logical with its grammar but also very beautiful with its written language and sound.
Welcome Appolimagne You do love languages don’t you! I hope you get to realise your dreams but, a translator from Latin and/or Greek yes; an interpreter?

Gaudeo quod tibi placat latine scribere! … If you really wish to test your skills in this area I suggest that you investigate the Grex Latine Loquentium if you don’t already know about it. It is an internet based correspondence group where only one rule is enforced: that all correspondence be written in latin - skill does not matter. If you are interested and can’t find the site where one subscribes I will be happy to direct you.
IF you are really really into writing in latin, try your hand at writing some news stories or some topical feature. The folks at Ephemeris are always looking for new talent.

Yeah, I know, becoming an interpreter for Latin/Greek is quite unlikely What I wanted to say: I want to become an interpreter, but I would also like to translate modern novels from for example English into Latin (I envy Peter Needham who does this with the Harry Potter series!).
