Aoidoi: a little dialect reading

Today I took the opportunity afforded by a head cold to work up two poems of Bion. They’re not terribly long (8 and 11 hexameter lines), and I find they’re pretty straightforward reading, even if they are in dialect. So, here’s your chance for easy early exposure to Bucolic Doric.

Bion 9 is about who the Muses will help. In Bion 11 he calls on the evening star to light his way to an amorous shepherd (always with the shepherds, these bucoliasts!).

thank you v much Will, these were great, i especially liked the bion 9. cheers, chad
