Antigone lines 7 and 8

From Antigone, lines 7 and 8.

καὶ νῦν τί τοῦτ’ αὖ φασι πανδήμω πόλει
κήρυγμα θεῖναι τὸν στρατηγὸν ἀρτίως ;

Does φασι here take 2 objects, τὸν στρατηγὸν and also τί τοῦτ’ ?
Can the accusative τὸν στρατηγὸν then govern the infinitive θεῖναι ?
Thank you for your input.

With φασι, it’s indirect speech. τον στρατηγον is the subject; θειναι is the infinitive verb; κηρυγμα is the direct object;

The noun in the accusative is the subject? I thought all subject nouns are nominative. Wow. I will look for this grammatical rule as related to indirect speech. Thank you.

The subject of an infinitive is usually accusative.

You are using North and Hillard? See page 50 “Indirect Statement II” The first example is “ὑπέλαβε τὸν Κῦρον οὐ παρεῖναι.”

Joel.
I was using North and Hilliard. Having discovered the videos covering every chapter/topic in Hansen and Quinn, I switched. I found the information there in section 15 after Hylander’s observation.
But thank you anyway.
