Hello all,
Happened upon a 1918 copy of Collar & Daniell but cannot find an answer key for it online. I was hoping this site would have one posted along with its answer keys, but unfortunately not. Any suggestions?
Best,
Shawn

Hi Hanelse,
I don’t think a key for that book exists which is pretty typical for Latin grammar books from that time period.

Hi,
I’ve mentioned this before (in the Latin for Beginners by D’Ooge thread). I came across a KEY to Elements of Latin by D’Ooge (1921).
Also, I’ve found a ‘Teachers’ Manual (=KEY) for Bennett’s New Latin Composition (1912/1919).
So obviously KEYS were produced in those days. Keep looking!
Cheers,
Int
Hi Again,
For composition books there’s a much better chance key availability, we have many of them online here.
But for the first year textbooks they are quite rare. Could the C&D key be out there? perhaps so, but I doubt it. I’m making this judgment on my experience of searching for keeys for the past 5 years. What makes the hunt for keys so hard is that publishers didn’t print too many and often they were only available upon written request from an instructor to the publisher.
I would be really interested in the key you have found for D’Ooge. What is the exact year?
thanks,
jeff
Hi Jeff,
What you say of course makes good sense. Ididn’t mean to sound critical.
I’m in the country at the moment and don’t have that particular set with me but when I get back to town on Sunday I’ll check if the Key has a date on it. I know D’Ooge’s ‘Elements of Latin’ course-book was printed in 1921. And I’m sure the key matches. Perhaps I could scan in the key for you if you get hold of the course-book some time.
Cheers,
Int
Hi Again Int,
You didn’t sound critical to me at all
I would really appreciate that key it would be popular here I think. Scanning would be good, but I’ll take a photocopy too.
thanks,
jeff
Hi Jeff,
I’ve photocopied the Key to Elements of Latin (1922) by D’Ooge (my scanning program wouldn’t work properly).
I notice that Alibris has a number of copies of the course-book for sale at very low prices.
If you email me a full name and address, I’ll post the key by snail mail.
Cheers,
Int
Hi Interaxus,
that’s great! and a photocopy is what I like best. The photocopying has a nice way of washing the image and creating better contrasts.
I will PM you more information.
thanks,
jeff
Hi Jeff,
It’s on its way.

Hi Jeff,
Got your PM. Glad to hear the Key arrived. That was quick! I have now photocopied the other Key I mentioned, the ‘Teachers’ Manual for Bennett’s New Latin Composition. I posted it this afternoon. I hope I’m not overloading you with work …
Cheers,
Int

Here it is:
Not the same book, and this key only has the English-Latin answers.
