Am I on the right track?

Hi again,

A few of the sentences I have to translate are proving tricky. Am I on the right track with them? Any advice, help or pointers?

ὁ φίλος ὅν ὁ ἔχθρος ἀπεκτόνεν ὑπὸ δένδρῳ ἦν

This one I am battling with - a word-for-word direct translation gives me:

the friend (?) the hostile (keep away?) (passive indicator) tree he was

οἱ ἄνθρωποι οἳ τοῖς προφήταις πεπιστεύκασι σοφώτεροι εἰσι τῶν ἄλλων
[/size]

The men have trusted the prophets who are wiser than the others

I’ve added commas to highlight the relative clauses:

ὁ φίλος, ὅν ὁ ἔχθρος ἀπεκτόνεν, ὑπὸ δένδρῳ ἦν
[/size]

While ὑπό does indicate the agent of a passive verb, it is also a normal preposition, “under.”

Also, is the accent on the verb right?

[size=150]
οἱ ἄνθρωποι, οἳ τοῖς προφήταις πεπιστεύκασι, σοφώτεροι εἰσι τῶν ἄλλων[/size]

The accent is as it appears in my textbook

What’s the textbook? I don’t think any finite form of ἀποκτείνω should be accented that way.
