I need to translate this phrase, " οὐδεὶς τούτους τοὺς ἄνδρας ἀξίως τῶν καλῶν πράξεων ἐπαινεῖν δυνήσεται."

So far, I have written, “No one will be able to praise these men worthy of the [or their] fine achievements.”

The answer book wrote, “No one will be able to praise these men in a manner worthy of their noble actions.”

Where did the “in a manner” come from? There is no οὕτως. I do not see a dative, unless one is staring me right in the face that I am not seeing. /shrug.

ἀξίως is an adverb, and that is the answer key’s rendition of that adverb in that context. They literally could have said “worthily of” but that’s even more awkward than the translation given by the answer key. Remember, there is not necessarily a one to one correspondence in rendering from one language to another. You have to translate according to the sense, and some times that requires “extra” words in the target language.
