about the meaning of "genea"

I am unclear about the definition of “genea” given in LSJ.

Under the article 2., the meaning “race, generation” is given.
But I don’t understand it.
What is the common meaning of “race” and “generation” ?
Or are we supposed to understand them separately, there being no common meaning between them ?

Race today means a distinct group of people distinguished by their physical characteristics
(a problematic and controversial definition by most contemporary biologists).
But It can also mean a genealogical line, a lineage, which is the intended meaning in the
quotes Liddell-Scott referenced.

When I am vague with a definition in LSJ (it is very often, as I am Japanese), I read sample sentences to be clearer.
But it may be more efficient to consult several internet English dictionaries.
Do you have advices to me ?

I’m also not a native speaker. Whenever I’m a vague on certain definitions, I use online dictionaries such
as the one to which I’ve linked. Dictionary.com is also a fine dictionary to consult.
