a question on a pensum from Familia Romana

Dear all, I apologize if my question is trivial but I couldn’t find a way out of myself.

In Familia Romana capitulum XIV pensum A, you can find the prompt:

Medicus caput dol_ sanāre nōn potest.

The teacher’s answer key suggests dolēns but I though it should be dolentem as it refers to caput which is the object of the sentence and therefore should be accusative and not nominative.

What is that I don’t understand?

Thanks,

maza

Hi Maza

Your analysis is correct but what gender is caput?

Hope thats enough for you to sort it out, if not post again.

I dont think any post asking this kind of question is trivial. It will no doubt help others whom we never hear from.

yes, sure! It is neuter and the accusative is always the same as nominative! Therefore the accusative is not dolentem but, indeed, dolēns.

Thank you very much, Seneca2008 (I really hope that it helps others because it was, indeed, trivial ;-<)
