241? really?

Post by Bert » Fri Jan 07, 2005 2:28 am

I see that the most users ever online is listed at 241!
(It was at +/- 35.) Is this correct? Amazing that the site did not have a meltdown.

There was a nasty worm which invaded sites running the same PHP software used here (phpBB), destroyed all html and php pages, then did its own google search trying to find other phpBB sites to obliterate. Needless to say, a bunch of infected phpBB installs all tried to do the same thing to Textkit (which was patched, and thus immune).

All those showed up as guest visits.

yes, lots of websites were hard hit, including cpp-home.com, a very high traffic website. Mine was safe, so was this one, thank the gods.

The nasty little worm has been revived. 526 is the max today.

It boggles the mind that there are still enough phpBB installs not patched to allow this.

I was lucky to get that patch in when I did, but I still need to update the forum script. This version is so old that I'm sure there will be new issues.
