[MG] συνηθοῦσε

Post by mingshey »

In the first sentence τοῦ καπετὰν Μιχάλη, "συνηθίζω"(get used to) appears in the form "συνηθοῦσε". By the context, the regular form seems to be impf. 3rd, sg., "συνήθιζε".
Is this form common to the Cretans, or is it specific to the author, Kazantzaki?

Honestly I couldn't say since τα κρητικα has endless amounts of weirdness to my eyes, but I doubt the author coined it and I've seen worse so probably dialectical. Check Erotokritos or something?

Hey there!
While not as familiar with the Cretan dialect as a Cretan would be, I've heard quite a few verbs in "-ούσε" from Cretans so in all probability it is dialectal.
