About OLD

Post by mingshey »

Salvete, omnes!

I took my time to check out OLD on the amazon and got just curious what would be the worst rating on this highly esteemed reference lexicon.

I was dreaming of buying a copy of this lexicon someday when I seriously begin to learn Latin. And I wish to know your opinions.

Gratia!

I bought L&S first (new), then OLD (second-hand), then Le Grand Gaffiot (new), mingshey.
I use L&S mostly, and only very occasionally find what I need in OLD rather than L&S, and L&S is much nicer to handle than OLD.
Gaffiot is overkill but I was curious about it, and occasionally, it is true, I have found extra things in it.

Primò, mingshey, dictionarium de L&S (novum exemplar) emi, tunc OLD (redivivum), dein Le Grand Gaffiot (novum).
Saepiùs in illud de L&S inquiro; rarò in OLD invenio id quo L&S caret. Multùm autem satiùs tractatur L&S quàm OLD.
Superfluum forsit id de Gaffiot de quo, fateor, curiosus fui et, verum est, pro re natâ repperi in eo quidem additicia.
I'm writing in Latin hoping for correction, and not because I'm confident in how I express myself. Latinè scribo ut ab omnibus corrigar, non quod confidenter me exprimam.
