Weakness at the APA

Post by annis »

The conference hasn't even started yet — except for registration and super-secret committee meetings — and already I'm buying expensive books.

Hopefully the program will keep me away from That Room for the remainder of the conference...

I didn't know what APA was so I figured; Google it. You wouldn't believe the number of societies APA can refer to. I figure the American Philological Association must be the one. I can understand that if would be very easy to over spend there. (Don't mistake my understanding for pity though.)

What did you get? And what do you consider expensive. (I say anything over $50.)

Are there any praiseworthy historical morphologies of Greek in English or German, does anyone know?

It's literally the lack of money which halts me from buying everything at those conferences.

It is a poignant irony that it is not actually working in classics that permits me to indulge in my classics booklust. It still takes a considerable act of will not to break into truly vulgar language whenever I pass the Brill booth.

I understand completely! Brill is the worst of them - the best books, the most expensive prices. Even their journals are costly to an institution. Gah, you can imagine how many time I had put a book down regrettingly at the Brill stand...nearly every other book!

Well, I found Dik's new book for $70 without shipping at A1books. What did you pay? I expect a final report of all the books you bought with full price quotes, William of Madison. 8)

Just slightly more than that, so I feel ok about the price. Well, less annoyed at least than I would be if you got it for much cheaper.

Yesterday I got A Student's Seneca on a whim, for $12-something.

The Textkit URL has been sighted on a handout for a talk on Greek prose comp, as a source for books on the topic.

I am not really rolling in money but it is not lack of money that keeps me from buying books, but lack of time to read them.

That never stopped me  . Perhaps it should, our library is overcrowded allready.
