a composition book based upon homer???

Are you reading Homeric Greek? Whether you are a total beginner or an advanced Homerist, here you can meet kindred spirits. Besides Homer, use this board for all things early Greek poetry.

a composition book based upon homer???

Post by Tertius Robertus »

is there such a thing? if not, what could be used to supply the scarce exercises presented on pharr. [they are quite effective - at least for me - but they are few in number, thereby i want something to serve as a complement]

cheers!

I have never heard of such a thing. That doesn't mean no such resources exist, but I expect they would be rare. Attic has always been the preferred dialect for both prose and verse composition. The mixed-dialect Kunstsprache of Homer would make prose exercises a bit odd.

But why? It's not as if anyone actually spoke in the dialect used by Homer :D

The aoidoi did! :) Not conversationally, but we've good reason to expect they could improvise in verse using that dialect.

I suspect 3us Robertus is looking for extra practice, not to start a Homeric prose movement, fun though that sounds.

Oh, OK, so there are people more crazy than I am :D And the aoidoi didn't really speak Homeric, they just used it (said splitting hairs Irene).

But you shouldn't listen to me, I am prejudiced I must say
