...can the last syllable in verb forms which end in ai (gignomai, essetai, etc) be scanned as short without correption? I'm talking about general lyric poetry.

I don't think so. the -ai in αἰδεῖσθαι, Iliad, 1, 377 seems to be long by nature, although it is short regarding the accent...

The same in γουνάσομαι, Iliad, 1, 427.

Nope. Sometimes it'll elide away entirely, or it can corrept, but otherwise it scans long.

Thanks. I just got it confused with it being short in regards to accent sometimes.
