Well, yes, Times New Roman works pretty good. I miss the fonts Trajan and Delphi, that used to come with Wordl Palatino is not half bad.Rhuiden wrote:What is the best font to use when typing latin?

Try Gentium - a font that was designed for Latin. http://scripts.sil.org/cms/scripts/page ... tium&_sc=1Rhuiden wrote:What is the best font to use when typing latin?

It's great for entering text/documents for your personal use; however, as with any font, any collaborative project requires all parties to have it, or else something is lost in the 'translation' of characters

Carlin Script is nice as well (http://www.tdc.org/news/2003Results/Carlin.html), but Gentium is FREE to download and use.

I know beans about OSX - hopefully someone else can help. Most Word processors have the ability to insert special characters - I simply create a new document, use the insert character tool to insert all the special (with macron) characters for 'A', 'a', 'E' etc then save it. I can have multiple documents open and just copy/paste when I need one. You can also create the macron character by holding 'ALT' and pressing 131 on the NUMERIC keypad, then letting up on the 'ALT' key.Lucus Eques wrote:I downloaded Gentium, but I'm unsure how to make the macrons. Go into the System Preferences app. Choose "International", then pick the "Input Menu" tab. You want to make sure that not only is English (US-English, in my case) checked, but also US Extended. Also click "show input menu in menu bar."Lucus Eques wrote:I downloaded Gentium, but I'm unsure how to make the macrons. I'm using OSX.
Then you'll be able to switch back and forth between the basic entry mode and the extended system. ALT-A sets you up for the macron in Extended mode.
