Why am I all alone?

Think back to when you first learned to do geometric proofs and stuff. It was fun, right? Much funner than Algebra.

...Right?

Everyone says I'm insane.::pout::

Math is just beautiful. And I love the great minds who created math.

It is only through math that man can grasp the secret of nature. It's the fire Promatheus gave to men.

Well, perhaps you are insane, but geometric proofs *are* much more fun than Algebra. Algebra can actually be dangerous, y'know, with all of this 'terrorism' stuff going on. You can get accused of posessing weapons of math instruction.

But really, math is beautiful. Just take a look at this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Mandelpart2.jpg

(I've been working on a program to render that for a bit, so don't mind my obsession with the "almond bread" set too much)

Oh, you're not alone; most of the people I know, including myself, find germetrci proofs easier.

I used to love math (entered college as a Math major). I'd have to say I prefer Algebra over Geometric proofs.

I much prefer geometric math to algebra.

MyIlium, you'd better make this thread a poll. :)

My vote for Geometry, although Algebra has its own merits(like, a mermaid can wear it).

Mermaids were meant to be topless.
“Cum ego verbo utar,” Humpty Dumpty dixit voce contempta, “indicat illud quod optem – nec plus nec minus.”
“Est tamen rogatio” dixit Alice, “an efficere verba tot res indicare possis.”
“Rogatio est, “Humpty Dumpty responsit, “quae fiat magister – id cunctum est.”

I liked algebra, but I did find geometric proofs more fun. You're not alone!

Shot with weapons of math instruction, of course. :)

mariek, I'm planning to major in math as well. 8) I'm doing some tutoring to help with that, which is how I encountered so much hostility to Geometry in the first place.

No, sorry, I have to disagree. At school I loved algebra but hated geometry and trignometry. Algebra just made sense in a way that all that mucking about with shapes didn't.

Perhaps you should read Max Frisch: Don Juan
oder Die Liebe zur Geometrie (Don Juan or The Love of Geometry). I read that for my final exams in high school. One of the few German books I actually liked.

Ingrid, who would vote for algebra.
