What else should we add to the Book Collection?

I thought that the Textkit Book Collection would be a little more visible as a subforum to the open board. And I also thought that it might give others a better opportunity to make suggestions for what sort of things to link to next.

Ideas?

I've used several of the Firmin-Didot Greek–Latin bilingual editions published in the nineteenth century. This is one example:

There's also an old series published by Hachette called Les auteurs grecs (with French translations). These are geared towards learners reading the texts in Greek:

I wonder if you could add Living Latin, an introductory look at Latin by K.E. Taylor and B.C. Prentice. It may be from the year 1956. I imagine it would not likely be available to add, but I must ask anyway! I took Latin in Grades 9 and 10, and then my school dropped Latin completely so I couldn't go on, at the high school level. Not sure that you want to add books intended for high school but it was a good book. I wish I had kept my copy. We don't always make the good decisions about school books! The book is available via Amazon (.ca here in Canada) but it costs nearly 200 dollars, last time I looked. I would wait a long time before deciding to buy!

If somebody provides a scan, since it's been long out of print, it's probably OK to add it (Joel has the last word, of course). You could borrow the book from a library in your country and provide the scan yourself.

bedwere, that is a terrific idea you have. I will try to get a copy of this book from a library and then scan it. I have just my library card with my city's library system but inter-library loans from universities are possible. As you say, Joel would have the final say on whether the book could be added so if I am ever able to scan the book, I will contact Joel with the request to add it to the collection. Thanks again!

I would advise checking copyright before adding scans of books borrowed from a library to the collection

Here's a good book that I use: Latin For Canadian Schools (1958 edition) by Breslove and Hooper.

There is a .pdf of the 1958 edition of Latin For Canadian Schools on archive.org. The scan is very nicely done. Not sure if it's out of copyright though. I have a physical copy. It's a great book and I use it often for reference.

There is also a 1967 edition called Latin For Canadian Schools: A New Approach of which I have a copy but I like the '58 version better.

To classicist: Thanks very much for putting up Latin for Canadian Schools. I see one has unlimited access to the text (unlike other texts on Internet Archive, which may let you borrow a book for an hour at a time). This book looks perfect for a Latin review which I want to do in the near future. And it is evocative for me of all that is good in learning (just going back in my memory to studying Latin in high school!).

Ahem: I had to edit the text right away (substitute Schools for Skills). Might use Preview in future!

This is self promotion but my website has over thirty Latin textbooks and easy modern classics in Latin. Some are available in epub format elsewhere, most not. (unless you include auto generated digital documents on the internet archive, which are gobbledeegook.)
