here he says that what is begotten from a slow motion is faster than that motion. There is probably an omission in the text, which should say that faster motion begets what is faster.

This is about where I broke off reading Theaitetos a few months back, and went over to the Republic for an easier read while my Greek improved. The core idea behind the physical theory was terribly interesting to me though, and had me thinking about graduate QM again.
Anyway, I didn't understand this quite then, and also wondered if it was corrupt. But looking at it now I'll suggest a tentative explanation: the ἴσχειν of τὴν κίνησιν is what produces the γεννᾶν because it holds back anything βραδύ, and only allows the escape of the θαττώ. It's φέρεται γάρ in the next sentence because φέρεται and φορᾷ refer to act of birthing as the original impulse generating their motion.
The point is, I think, that it is a mechanism of like things generating unlike things, to therefore explain the generation of everything. A type of evolutionary theory, if you will, though applied to all existence rather than all life.
This is all tentative though. I'll think about it harder once I come back to this after Republic.
