Several common expressions (cont.)

He makes everybody laugh. Risum omnibus movet (concitat).

He said it joking(-ly). He was just joking. Animi gratia hoc dixit.

To take a joke seriously. Not to be able to take a joke. Praevertere serio quod dictum est per jocum.

All jokes aside, you are very pleasant. Extra jocum, homo bellus es.

I let out (I slipped out) this word (unintentionally). Hoc verbum mihi excidit.

Mind your own business. Tuas res perage.

The sooner, the better. Quod celerius, id potius.

Close ranks! Ordines stipate, comprimite.

Let’s make things be so. Demus hoc ita esse.

I will vouch for this. In hanc rem fidem meam interpono.

I have the answer at hand. Ad manum est responsio.

Go to the right. Concede ad dextram.

He and I are close friends. Cum illo magna est mihi gratia.

We must take this into consideration. Habenda est ejus rei ratio.

This is a very good reason for me. Valet haec ratio apud me multum.

This reason contradicts you. Ratio illa contra te valet.

You are completely mistaken. Tota via (toto caelo) erras.

One of us is wrong. Alter nostrum fallitur.

I don’t really know it for sure. De illa re parum mihi certum est.

I don’t know what are you getting at. Quo evadas nescio.

This hat fits (suits) you fine. Bene quadrat (convenit) hic pileus capiti.

Let me get my breath back. Sine ut ad me redeam.

This has made me feel a little better. Hoc me aliqua ex parte relevavit.

This is proverbial. This has passed into a proverb. Increbuit haec res proverbio. Hoc proverbii locum obtinuit. Hoc abiit in proverbium.

To tell you all at once (and let you go)... Omnino ut te absolvam.

You come very opportunely, at just the right moment. Optime te mihi offers.

He has said this in all good faith. Nativa venustate hoc dixit.
