Obligatory salvē
Hey guys ~ as per the request on the account creation page, I'm making a short intro post on the open board part of the forum. Currently a student at uni, studying latin + greek. Classics is cool and so is verse composition. If anyone's got any latin/greek poetry manuals on hand or knows where to find them (online or irl) I'd be happy to hear

Welcome to Textkit. Have a look in our Library (menu on top) and then in this far more extensive collection.
Corrections are welcome (especially for projects).

You’ll probably know Sidgwick’s Intro. to Greek Verse Composition, which still has great value and is largely applicable to Latin too. For Greek iambics there’s an offering by Textkit’s own Chad, http://www.aoidoi.org/articles/meter/WritingIambics.pdf (which seems still to be up), and there are guides on various things by William Annis, perhaps still findable through Textkit. And of course M.L. West’s Greek Metre gives all sorts of usable info on poetic composition in antiquity.
Textkit has a Composition Board, started by Annis, but its original purpose was quickly perverted and now you’ll find little to interest you there. Rather more in the Learning Greek board perhaps, and there are some interesting posts on the Latin Poetry board.

For Latin, Califf's A Guide to Latin Meter and Verse Composition. I just got it, and a quick perusal indicates that it will be quite useful.

Ah yeap, I've managed to find Aoidoi's website - unfortunately a couple of the more interesting pdfs seem to be missing from the website (e.g. the one labelled Iambic Composition Notes (https://www.freewebs.com/mhninaeide/Grk ... Apr-06.pdf)). Thanks for the other pointers though - I'll be looking into West's Greek Metre for sure.mwh wrote:You’ll probably know Sidgwick’s Intro. to Greek Verse Composition, which still has great value and is largely applicable to Latin too.
