Direct Method

Post by quendidil »

While searching for old books that teach languages by either the "Natural Method"or the "Direct Method" I came across a link teaching french by the "direct method" following a link to Amazon. I found lots of old books teaching French by the direct method, does anyone have access to any of those old direct method books? if so, could you tell me whether its the same as the "Lingua Latina" way?

If that is the case, could anyone explain why this method died out around the time of Lingua Latina in the 50s?

Edit

After searching on Amazon a little further, I found languages from Japanese to Turkish with textbooks based on the "direct method", however, they stopped publishing books of these sort, at least in English shortly before the Beatles went to Germany.

To what level does it teach? That is, what can you do now in French?
