Johnny Depp....

Post by Kopio » Sun Sep 18, 2005 4:19 am

Ok....so now that I have Emma's attention :)

Johnny just got his hands and feet in the memorialized at Grauman's Chinese Theater today...you can read about it here for those of you who are interested.

Now....not to stir up to much trouble, but what do you guys think of that??

I love Johnny Depp.....I used to watch him in 21 Jump Street when I was a kid, and I always identified with him (being a kid in high school myself at the time). Edward Scissorhands was weird, but cool (I love Tim Burton films), and he was absolutely unbelievably good in Pirates of the Caribbean (I've seen it at least 10 times). I haven't seen a lot of his more current films, and I don't agree with him much politically or socially, but I will give him the fact that he is quite an actor.

Oh yes, and if I were a 20 year old female, I'd probably be madly in love with him too.....I must admit, he is a very handsome man!

I say he has earned his place at the Chinese. Though I am a teenage girl who is not madly in love with him (quite frankly, I thought Orlando Bloom was the more attractive one in Pirates of the Carribean).

Kopio what are his political/social views? I have no idea (seriously)

Anyway I believe that yes, he should be given the honour of being memorialised at the Theatre, lots of others have without his talent. He does really well in strange movies where he's playing a grotesquely unreal character, and you know he knows he's doing it, but he acts like he doesn't. But also he's got some good ones, like What's Eating Gilbert Grape, which I saw when I was younger and so maybe that's why I say it's a good movie. But it moved me.

Gonna try and go to bed again. Not working much tonight.

Why are you being gay?

Sit nobis Iohannus Dapis
Propter quem placeat nulla puella mihi.

It is well that a man should have a formed face, but nothing annoys me more than the silly little girls (one of whom actually peperit mon pépé, Eleuthera!) who rate him above actors such as Steve Coogan in I'm Alan Partridge. If you are not in the U.K. you will not have had the chance to see this classic show.

I wish for nothing more on television than a third series of Partridge

evening all,

re: the actor, a certain epigram of Martial came to mind.

bellus homo et magnus uis idem, Cotta, uideri:
sed qui bellus homo est, Cotta, pusillus homo est.

Finally something I can read....you must remember that most of your Latin quips are lost on me.

For the record, I do not pursue boys....just ask my wife!

That sounds about right to me (but don't take my word for it). Although I can't find ignorumus in my dictionary.

personally, I would prefer Episcopus est fatuus homo, just because it say's homo and I thought that was kinda funny. :D

I'm only joking Kopio! I am under the influence of jaffa cakes and Martial's epigrams!

GGG: I thought you were a guy. There wasn't any reason in particular, just the name sounded to me masculine. Sorry...

I agree that Johnny is much better than Orlando (and so does my gf). I like him in "The Ninth Gate".

Yes in that film (Legolas is too boring a character to be attractive) and I agree that Johnny is the better actor. But best actor does not make most attractive; you just have to be a good enough actor to not embarass yourself.

But that's just the good thing about him! He doesn't worry about about what his image may be like if he plays a particular character in a certain way, he just tries to play that character as best as he can. That's why when you watch Pirates of the Caribbean you don't see 'Johnny Depp', you see the pirate. But you see Orlando Bloom...

No, it's not on MTV. It's on the Bravo cable channel here in the US. I'm not sure whether you get it in Germany? They have these great interviews with actors and I caught the one with Johnny Depp. They talk about their background and their acting, and it's done in front of an audience of acting students (who in turn get to ask a few questions too). IIRC, JD was smoking during his interview. I know you'd love watching this interview, I hope you can find it.
