I totally have to agree with you. I'd have to say that the internet has helped me so much learn the languages that I speak today. It has allowed me to create an environment, when needed, that would force me to use the language, where otherwise I never would have used it, by permitting me to connect with people who actually speak these languages in their respective countries. So totally, once I get better Latin, I myself volunteer for a chat with anyone. For now though, Licinius, posso-te falar em português. hehe.

Diz-me, quão avançado estás? Já leste textos originais? Quais?
E aqui estou agora, a aprender latim. Sempre é a mesma coisa.

Vale

This looks like a terrific site, Licinius! Now the only concern is that I'll have yet one more site to fill up my time... oh dear. As if I haven't got enough to take care of already.

E pois, contigo, espero falar logo. :)

There are no Greek or Latin chatrooms there, so who's gonna create them? I think it's a great thing, then I'll be able to practice my Latin even more, and I'll have to be able to type it fast!

Hmm.

It requires much fighting to get Unicode working on IRC. Some clients work, some do not. I just spent a week fighting with various options. :)

Those who use iChat/AIM can connect to the group chat "Textkit" if in the mood.

I couldn't see #textkit, but then I'm not using an IRC client.

If you use AIM (AOL's chatty thing), or happen to be a Mac user with iChat, just go to your File menu and select "Go to chat." When it asks for a name, use "Textkit".

I was finally able to get an irc client working with Unicode, so irc://unilang.org/classics/ works for me now, too.

Umm... My AIM messenger has no File menu, and I can't find "go to chat" anywhere. :? Also, I can't find any directories of chat groups either.

Please help. :(

(I'm using Windows, if that matters.)

I'm using trillian for AIM, so I don't know if this will help. But it's called "Join a chat room". I found the textkit room but there was no one there. :(

I'm unlikely to be there during the day weekdays. Evenings in my timezone and weekends I'm likely to be logged in.

I have using those chat rooms. They're very cool. :)
tdominus wrote:FiliusLunae, what languages have you learnt with assistance from chat rooms? Just curious :)
Sorry for the late response. Mmhh... Well, like I said, the internet has helped to connect with people, so that I may have conversations in the target language, typing, and especially, speaking (voice chat). I found this to help me tremendously, so that when the opportunity arises to actually put the language to use, I feel rather prepared. In any case, the chat rooms, more than anything else have helped me to improve whichever language. The learning, well, that's a different story. :P
If you're wondering which ones speak, I speak only Romance languages, besides English: the major ones, plus Catalan. :D
