commendation for textkit tutorials

Post by Bert » Thu Oct 21, 2004 2:34 am

A very respected (retired) Greek professor who is one of the moderators of B-Greek (a Biblical Greek e-mail discussion group) praised some of the textkit tutorials.
I don't need this approval to appreciate the textkit tutorials but it was nice to read and it increases my respect for the authors to a higher level.

Yes, textkit deserves much praise, both for the quality of the content, and also for providing an infrastructure to present and promote it.

WOW!!!!!!! Carl Conrad is talking about William and Textkit!!!!! Unbeleivable!! I have 2 Greek Profs who say they want to be like Carl when they grow up (mind you they've been teaching many, many years and are well into hood i.e. 40's-50's). He's about as big of a fish in Greek as I know of!

OK, I've gushed and blathered long enough....I'm still pretty impressed!

Goodness, don't forget Paul! His command of the aspect literature is much deeper than mine, and is responsible for what Conrad found praiseworthy about the aspect tutorial.

We're not a journal, of course, but positive peer review is still satisfying.

Indeed, Paul is an outstanding contributor to the study of the Greek language. His website, www.greekgeek.org , (along with textkit, of course) is an invaluable aid for the study of Homeric Greek. Paul is Greek!

You know, Paul has a mugshot of himself on his website. He looks like a guy you don't want to mess around with if you know what I mean.

Fanatical ranting is not just fine because it's eloquent. What if I ranted for the extermination of a people in an eloquent manner, would that make it fine? Rather, ranting, be it fanatical or otherwise, is fine if what is said is true and just. ---PeterD, in reply to IreneY and Annis

ooops! No slight meant to Paul.....I scanned through things rather quickly, and in my excitement lost my head :P . WOW!!! I still can't believe it! Carl is responsible for how my favorite Greek Prof views the middle voice, he doesn't even use the term "deponent" anymore...he ranks it up there with the "once for all" concept of the Aorist!

I also incline to his understanding of the medio-passive, but I don't think I understand it well enough yet, especially in Epic.
