G'day
Just a post to introduce myself. (According to local forum customs. )
I live in Melbourne.
I'm a university student. And I've just started learning ancient Greek independently (using John Williams White's book).
In High School I did two years of Latin, so learning the grammar should (hopefully) be easyish.

Hi there!
Be sure to check out the Greek forums, both the general Learning board and the specific one for your textbook, and feel free to post any questions you might have!
And... Melbourne, eh? Which university are you studying at? (I've been looking into the University of Melbourne and Monash, myself.)
Anyway, good luck with the Greek, and do contact the moderators should you have any trouble with the forums.
All the best!

Re: G'day
Thanks. It's Archimedes' Palimsest. Does anyone here know what dialect he wrote it in? I guess he would most likely have been a Dorian, but didn't books like this tend to be written in Attic by his time?mariek wrote:I love your Avatar.

Welcome Eureka, you've come to the right place, although I am sure that you are clever enough to find the Ancient Greek Forum!
May I ask are the females as beautiful as they are said to be in Australia? Or is it just all the propaganda, term used loosely, from Australian T.V. coming to the U.K. for example in which every girl is stupidly pretty?
Hmm...

TV is an exaggeration. (I presume you're talking about shows like Neighbours.)Episcopus wrote:May I ask are the females as beautiful as they are said to be in Australia? I haven't been to the UK, so I can't really comment on the women over there. But in any case there is no giant government conspiracy to make our women appear more attractive in the international media.
...But they are poisoning your water supply.

Archimedes wrote in Doric dialect. Example :Eureka wrote:I guess he would most likely have been a Dorian, but didn't books like this tend to be written in Attic by his time?
