Finding Information About the NTV Modern Greek Bible Translation

Post by Bernd Strauss »

There is a modern Greek translation of the Bible which is referred to by the English abbreviation NTV. What do the letters of the abbreviation stand for and where can I find information about this translation?

Sir, the only information that I can find on the Internet is that NTV stands for Nueva Traducción Viviente, which is a translation of the Bible into Spanish, not modern Greek. Here is one source with a short description in English: https://www.tyndale.com/ntv
Of course NTV could very well stand for something else. How did you hear about the NTV Modern Greek Bible?

This is answered elsewhere by our friend opoudjis:

The NTV is a Katharevousa version, which the Bible Society owns, and which is not Vamvas, and which is not the 1997 version. The only translation matching those criteria is the “Four Professors’” translation from 1967: Η Καινή Διαθήκη των Τεσσάρων Καθηγητών - Βικιπαίδεια. I don’t know where the NTV comes from; Neohellenic Translation Version?
“One might get one’s Greek from the very lips of Homer and Plato." "In which case they would certainly plough you for the Little-go. The German scholars have improved Greek so much.”

As far as the acronym, I'd say that it stands for Neohellenic Tessaron Version.

Thank you. I had read the material in the links previously and wanted to ascertain what the abbreviation stands for, since the writer was not sure. Apparently I should use the Greek title when referring to this Bible version, since it is more easily found on the Internet by that title.
